Fragrances and perfumes are closely related, but they have important distinctions in perfumery.

A perfume, on the other hand, is a specific type of fragrance that is made by combining aromatic compounds with a solvent, typically alcohol or water. The concentration of these compounds and the quality of the ingredients used determine the strength and longevity of the perfume.

So, while a perfume is a type of fragrance, not all fragrances are necessarily perfumes.

The ingredients used in fragrance composition play a critical role in differentiating natural fragrances from synthetic ones. With a limited selection of approximately 350 raw materials, natural perfumery requires a high level of technical expertise from perfumers to create unique olfactive profiles that may not exist in nature, such as aquatic notes, or are no longer used, such as musky and animalic notes, in order to cover all olfactive families. Additionally, the cultivation and scarcity of natural ingredients compared to their synthetic counterparts make natural perfumery more exclusive and expensive. In contrast, synthetic perfumery relies on a mix of up to 1500 raw materials to achieve desired scents. Ultimately, the choice between natural and synthetic ingredients depends on the desired scent profile and cost.

The longevity of a fragrance is influenced by several factors, including the type and concentration of ingredients, the application method, and the individual’s skin chemistry. While natural fragrances may not last as long as synthetic fragrances, they still offer an excellent performance. Natural fragrances may have a different scent profile and development over time compared to synthetic fragrances. They also tend to have a subtler and more nuanced scent, which some people find more appealing. It’s important to note that the longevity of natural fragrances, like all fragrances, can vary depending on the specific ingredients and formulation. To get an idea, it’s recommended to try different natural fragrances and observe how they perform on your skin.

Functional fragrances and fine fragrances differ only in their final concentration and application. Both begin as concentrated fragrances, but their end uses vary. Functional fragrances are incorporated into various bases, such as creams, serums, gels, or waxes, and are used in a wide range of products, including skincare, body care, hair care, oral care, makeup, home care, candles, and room fragrances. Fine fragrances, on the other hand, are typically diluted in alcohol or other solvents and are designed to be sprayed directly onto the skin or clothing.

At Escentina, we prioritise using the highest quality natural ingredients in all of our fragrances, and adhere to the strictest industry standards, such as the Cosmos Natural certification, one of the highest certifications for natural fragrances, surpassed only by the organic standard. By upholding these rigorous standards, we can ensure the purity and quality of our natural fragrances to our clients. However, we also recognise that some clients may request compliance with less strict standards, such as ISO 16128, ISO 9235 and Natrue In these cases, we make sure to meet their requirements while maintaining our commitment to using natural ingredients of the highest quality.

TrueScent was born in 2012 in response to the increasing demand and awareness for natural skincare and home-care products. This line of 100% natural fragrances covers each of our 15 olfactive families and adheres to the rigorous standards set forth by the Cosmos Natural certification. The TrueScent line also offers flexibility with options that correspond to less strict standards and certifications for clients with different needs and preferences when it comes to product certifications, such as ISO 16128, ISO 9235 and Natrue quality standards. Our TrueScent line has exceptional fragrance performance in all applications, including personal care, skincare, oral care, hair care, home care, and candles. Additionally, in some olfactive families, it offers allergen-free or low-allergen fragrance options that are suitable for babies and sensitive skin.
